New school year greetings from the Director

As you can imagine, the recent storms have created a number of scheduling problems for Westfield High School...our Orchestra events included. The power was out from 2:50 yesterday afternoon until 11:05 this morning. Ironically, right after the last bus rolled away taking our students back home today, the power was restored by NOVEC. So, please note the following changes to our end-of-the year activities and events. We apologize if this created any additional hardships, but it is the best we can do given the circumstances. The Orchestra Spring Concert, featuring all Westfield Orchestras, is ON for this evening. May 5, 2008m, 7:00 p.m. in the Westfield Auditorium. Please check the website (www.westfieldorchestra.org) at 5:00 p.m. this evening for confirmation or any changes.

Regrettably, the banquet is canceled. There were only 17 families that had responded out of 140 as of today. All money will be refunded to you through your student. Even though the actual RSVP deadline is tomorrow, we feel that with the very limited time we have left, the time allotted for the banquet would be better served by allowing our seniors another opportunity to have their recital...for which they have all worked very hard.  Therefore, the SENIOR RECITAL has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at CENTREVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH on Hwy 29. Please note, there was no space available at Westfield to reschedule this recital, therefore we had to relocate. Reminders:

• 2008 Orchestra Scholarships -- Information will be mailed out the beginning of next week to the parents of all graduating seniors in the orchestra program. Included in this mailing will be the scholarship application and qualification guidelines. Please note the deadline: The completed applications are due back to Mr. Rupert no later than Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

• Westfield Symphony Orchestra is providing the music at Graduation this year /strong>(we alternate years with the Band). June 18, 2008, 9:30 a.m. Continental breakfast is provided to our orchestra members at the Patriot Center. We need parents to help set-up, serve, and clean-up....in addition to transporting the food and drinks from Westfield to the Patriot Center. We leave Westfield EARLY to beat the traffic going to GMU . If you would like to help, please let me or Mr. Rupert know.

• Thank you to all who participated in the online Scrip survey. We pulled a lot of valuable information and hope to tweak the program to better serve all of our families. Watch for news over the summer about changes and new options. Remember, the profits earned from Scrip goes directly to fund your student's orchestra trip!

• Other dates to remember:
  Senior Awards Night (school-wide) is June 16, 2008 in the auditorium. Invitations are sent out through WHS Guidance to those receiving awards.
